Asbabu n-Nuzuul (Occasions of Revelation)
وَالْخَامِسَةَ أَنَّ غَضَبَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا إِن كَانَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ ﴿٩﴾
if she bears witness four times by Allah, that he is telling a lie. And the fifth; should be that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he speaks the truth.
The wrath of Allah is mentioned specially in the case of the woman, because usually a man would not go to the extent of exposing his wife and accusing her of Zina unless he is telling the truth and has good reason to do this, and she knows that what he is accusing her of is true. So in her case the fifth testimony calls for the wrath of Allah to be upon her, for the one upon whom is the wrath of Allah, is the one who knows the truth yet deviates from it.
Then Allah mentions His grace and kindness to His creation in that He has prescribed for them a way out of their difficulties.
فخصها بالغضب كما أن الغالب أن الرجل لا يتجشم فضيحة أهله ورميها بالزنا إلا وهو صادق معذور وهي تعلم صدقه فيما رماها به ولهذا كانت الخامسة في حقها أن غضب الله عليها والمغضوب عليه هو الذي يعلم الحق ثم يحيد عنه ثم ذكر تعالى رأفته بخلقه ولطفه بهم فيما شرع لهم من الفرج والمخرج من شدة ما يكون بهم من الضيق.
"والخامسة أن غضب الله عليها إن كان من الصادقين" في ذلك
فإذا فرغ الرجل من التعانه قامت المرأة بعده فحلفت بالله أربعة أيمان , تقول فيها : أشهد بالله إنه لكاذب أو إنه لمن الكاذبين فيما ادعاه علي وذكر عني . وإن كانت حاملا قالت : وإن حملي هذا منه . ثم تقول في الخامسة : وعلي غضب الله إن كان صادقا , أو إن كان من الصادقين في قوله ذلك . ومن أوجب اللعان بالقذف يقول في كل شهادة من الأربع : أشهد بالله إني لمن الصادقين فيما رميت به فلانة من الزنى . ويقول في الخامسة : علي لعنة الله إن كنت كاذبا فيما رميت به من الزنى. وتقول هي : أشهد بالله إنه لكاذب فيما رماني به من الزنى . وتقول في الخامسة : علي غضب الله إن كان صادقا فيما رماني به من الزنى .
