وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم
مَّطَراً فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُجْرِمِينَ

Kuma Muka yi ruwa a kansu da wani irin ruwa. To, ruwan waɗanda ake yi wa gargaɗi ya mũnana.
And We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not)!
And We rained on them a rain, and evil was the rain of those who had been warned.
And We rained a rain upon them. Dreadful is the rain of those who have been warned.
Asbabu n-Nuzuul (Occasions of Revelation)
وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّطَرًا ...
And We rained down on them a rain.
means; stones of Sijjil, in a well-arranged manner one after another. Marked from your Lord; and they are not ever far from the evildoers.
Allah said:
... فَسَاء مَطَرُ الْمُنذَرِينَ ﴿٥٨﴾
So, evil was the rain of those who were warned.
meaning, those against whom proof was established and whom the warning reached, but they went against the Messenger and denied him, and resolved to drive him out from among them.
أي حجارة من سجيل منضود مسومة عند ربك وما هي من الظالمين ببعيد ولهذا قال " فساء مطر المنذرين" أي الذين قامت عليهم الحجة ووصل إليهم الإنذار فخالفوا الرسول وكذبوه وهموا بإخراجه من بينهم .
"وأمطرنا عليهم مطرا" هو حجارة السجيل فأهلكتهم "فساء" بئس "مطر المنذرين" بالعذاب مطرهم
أي من أنذر فلم يقبل الإنذار . سرى لوط بأهله كما وصف الله " بقطع من الليل " [ هود : 81 ] ثم أمر جبريل , عليه السلام فأدخل جناحه تحت مدائنهم فاقتلعها ورفعها حتى سمع أهل السماء صياح الديكة ونباح الكلاب , ثم جعل عاليها سافلها , وأمطرت عليهم حجارة من سجيل , قيل : على من غاب منهم . وأدرك امرأة لوط , وكانت معه حجر فقتلها . وكانت فيما ذكر أربع قرى . وقيل : خمس فيها أربعمائة ألف . وسبق في سورة [ هود ] قصة لوط بأبين من هذا .
