قَدْ يَعْلَمُ اللَّهُ الْمُعَوِّقِينَ مِنكُمْ وَالْقَائِلِينَ لِإِخْوَانِهِمْ هَلُمَّ إِلَيْنَا وَلَا يَأْتُونَ الْبَأْسَ إِلَّا قَلِيلاً

Qad yaAAlamu Allahu almuAAawwiqeena minkum waalqaileena liikhwanihim halumma ilayna wala yatoona albasa illa qaleelan

Yoruba Translation

Hausa Translation

Lalle Allah Ya san mãsu hana mutãne fita daga cikinku, da mãsu cħwa ga ´yan´uwansu,&quotKu zo nan a wurinmu.&quot Kuma bã zã su shiga yãƙi ba fãce kaɗan.

Verily Allah knows those among you who keep back (men) and those who say to their brethren, "Come along to us", but come not to the fight except for just a little while.
Allah knows indeed those among you who hinder others and those who say to their brethren: Come to us; and they come not to the fight but a little,
Allah already knoweth those of you who hinder, and those who say unto their brethren: "Come ye hither unto us!" and they come not to the stress of battle save a little,

Asbabu n-Nuzuul (Occasions of Revelation)

Allah tells,

قَدْ يَعْلَمُ اللَّهُ الْمُعَوِّقِينَ مِنكُمْ وَالْقَائِلِينَ لِإِخْوَانِهِمْ ...

Allah already knows those among you who keep back (men) from fighting (in Allah's cause), and those who say to their brethren,

Allah tells us that His knowledge encompasses those who sought to tell others not to go out and who said to their brethren, meaning their companions, friend and acquaintances,

... هَلُمَّ إِلَيْنَا ...

Come here towards us,

meaning, come to where we are in the shade and enjoying fruits. But in spite of that,

... وَلَا يَأْتُونَ الْبَأْسَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ﴿١٨﴾

أَشِحَّةً عَلَيْكُمْ ...

they come not to the battle except a little, being miserly towards you.

i.e., `they are mean and have no love or mercy towards you.'

As-Suddi said:

أَشِحَّةً عَلَيْكُمْ (Being miserly towards you). means, with the booty.

...فَإِذَا جَاء الْخَوْفُ رَأَيْتَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ تَدُورُ أَعْيُنُهُمْ كَالَّذِي يُغْشَى عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْمَوْتِ ...

Then when fear comes, you will see them looking to you, their eyes revolving like one over whom hovers death;

means, because of the intensity of their fear and terror; this is how afraid these cowards are of fighting.

... فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ الْخَوْفُ سَلَقُوكُم بِأَلْسِنَةٍ حِدَادٍ ...

but when the fear departs, they will smite you with sharp tongues,

means, when security is restored, they will speak eloquently and nicely, claiming that they were the bravest and most chivalrous of men, but they are lying.

Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said: سَلَقُوكُم (they will smite you) means,

"they will start to talk about you.''

Qatadah said:

"But when it comes to the booty, the most miserly of people and the worst to have to share the booty with are those who say, `Give us, give us, we were there with you,' but during battle they were the most cowardly and the most likely to fail to support the truth.''

... أَشِحَّةً عَلَى الْخَيْرِ ...

are miserly towards good,

meaning that there is no goodness in them, for they have combined cowardice with lies and little good.

Allah says:

... أُوْلَئِكَ لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا فَأَحْبَطَ اللَّهُ أَعْمَالَهُمْ وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى اللَّهِ يَسِيرًا ﴿١٩﴾

Such have not believed. Therefore Allah makes their deeds fruitless and that is ever easy for Allah.

يخبر تعالى عن إحاطة علمه بالمعوقين لغيرهم عن شهود الحرب والقائلين لإخوانهم أي أصحابهم وعشرائهم وخلطائهم " هلم إلينا " أي إلى ما نحن فيه من الإقامة في الظلال والثمار وهم مع ذلك " لا يأتون البأس إلا قليلا أشحة عليكم " أي بخلاء بالمودة والشفقة عليكم .

"قد يعلم الله المعوقين" المثبطين "منكم والقائلين لإخوانهم هلم" تعالوا "إلينا ولا يأتون البأس" القتال "إلا قليلا" رياء وسمعة

أي المعترضين منكم لأن يصدوا الناس عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ; وهو مشتق من عاقني عن كذا أي صرفني عنه . وعوق , على التكثير

«قَدْ يَعْلَمُ اللَّهُ» قد حرف تكثير ومضارع وفاعله «الْمُعَوِّقِينَ» مفعول به «مِنْكُمْ» متعلقان بما قبلهما والجملة مستأنفة لا محل لها. «وَالْقائِلِينَ» معطوف على المعوقين «لِإِخْوانِهِمْ» متعلقان بما قبلهما «هَلُمَّ» اسم فعل أمر «إِلَيْنا» متعلقان بما قبلهما والجملة مقول القول. والواو حالية «لا يَأْتُونَ» لا نافية ومضارع مرفوع والواو فاعله «الْبَأْسَ» مفعول به «إِلَّا» حرف حصر «قَلِيلًا» صفة مفعول مطلق محذوف والجملة حال

لَا تَجْعَلُوا دُعَاء الرَّسُولِ بَيْنَكُمْ كَدُعَاء بَعْضِكُم بَعْضاً قَدْ يَعْلَمُ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ يَتَسَلَّلُونَ مِنكُمْ لِوَاذاً فَلْيَحْذَرِ الَّذِينَ يُخَالِفُونَ عَنْ أَمْرِهِ أَن تُصِيبَهُمْ فِتْنَةٌ أَوْ يُصِيبَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
