Asbabu n-Nuzuul (Occasions of Revelation)
فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَائِي إِلَّا فِرَارًا ﴿٦﴾
But all my calling added nothing but to (their) flight.
meaning, `the more I called them to come to the truth, the more they fled from it and avoided it.'
أي كلما دعوتهم ليقتربوا من الحق فروا منه وحادوا عنه .
"فلم يزدهم إلا فرارا" عن الإيمان
أي تباعدا من الإيمان . وقراءة العامة بفتح الياء من " دعائي " وأسكنها الكوفيون ويعقوب والدوري عن أبي عمرو .

«فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ» الفاء حرف عطف ومضارع مجزوم بلم والهاء مفعوله الأول «دُعائِي» فاعل مؤخر «إِلَّا» حرف حصر «فِراراً» مفعول به ثان والجملة معطوفة على ما قبلها.
