Asbabu n-Nuzuul (Occasions of Revelation)
Thus, Allah says,
وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا ﴿١٣﴾
And We have made (therein) a shining lamp.
meaning, the radiant sun that gives light to all of the world. Its light glows for all of the people of the earth.
يعني الشمس المنيرة على جميع العالم التي يتوهج ضوءها لأهل الأرض كلهم.
" وجعلنا سراجا " منيرا " وهاجا " وقادا : يعني الشمس
أي وقادا وهي الشمس . وجعل هنا بمعنى خلق ; لأنها تعدت لمفعول واحد والوهاج الذي له وهج ; يقال : وهج يهج وهجا ووهجا ووهجانا . ويقال للجوهر إذا تلألأ توهج . وقال ابن عباس : وهاجا منيرا متلألئا .
