وَلَوْ عَلِمَ اللّهُ فِيهِمْ خَيْراً لَّأسْمَعَهُمْ وَلَوْ أَسْمَعَهُمْ لَتَوَلَّواْ وَّهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ

Walaw AAalima Allahu feehim khayran laasmaAAahum walaw asmaAAahum latawallaw wahum muAAridoona

Yoruba Translation

Hausa Translation

Dã Allah Yã san wani alhħri a cikinsu, dã Yã jiyar da su, kuma kõ da Yãjiyar da su, haƙĩƙa, dã sun jũya , alhãli sũ, sunã mãsu hinjirħwa.

English Translation

If Allah had found in them any good. He would indeed have made them listen: (As it is), if He had made them listen, they would but have turned back and declined (Faith).
And if Allah had known any good in them He would have made them hear, and if He makes them hear they would turn back while they withdraw.
Had Allah known of any good in them He would have made them hear, but had He made them hear they would have turned away, averse.

Tafseer (English)

وَلَوْ عَلِمَ اللّهُ فِيهِمْ خَيْرًا لَّأسْمَعَهُمْ ...

Had Allah known of any good in them, He would indeed have made them listen.

He would have helped them understand. However, this did not happen because there is no goodness in such people, for Allah knows that,

... وَلَوْ أَسْمَعَهُمْ ...

even if He had made them listen...

and allowed them to understand,

... لَتَوَلَّواْ ...

they would but have turned...,

intentionally and out of stubbornness, even after they comprehend,

... وَّهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ ﴿٢٣﴾

with aversion, (to the truth).

Tafseer (Arabic)

ثم أخبر تعالى بأنهم لا فهم لهم صحيح ولا قصد لهم صحيح لو فرض أن لهم فهما فقال " ولو علم الله فيهم خيرا لأسمعهم " أي لأفهمهم وتقدير الكلام " و " لكن لا خير فيهم فلم يفهمهم لأنه يعلم أنه " لو أسمعهم " أي أفهمهم " لتولوا " عن ذلك قصدا وعنادا بعد فهمهم ذلك " وهم معرضون " عنه .

"ولو علم الله فيهم خيرا" صلاحا بسماع الحق "لأسمعهم" سماع تفهم "ولو أسمعهم" فرضا وقد علم أن لا خير فيهم "لتولوا" عنه "وهم معرضون" عن قبوله عنادا وجحودا

قوله تعالى : " ولو علم الله فيهم خيرا لأسمعهم " قيل : الحجج والبراهين ; إسماع تفهم . ولكن سبق علمه بشقاوتهم

I'raab - grammatical analysis of the Qur'an

«وَلَوْ» حرف شرط غير جازم ، والواو استئنافية.
«عَلِمَ اللَّهُ فِيهِمْ» فعل ماض تعلق به الجار والمجرور ولفظ الجلالة فاعله.
«خَيْراً» مفعول به.
«لَأَسْمَعَهُمْ» فعل ماض ومفعوله وفاعله مستتر واللام واقعة في جواب الشرط ، والجملة لا محل لها جواب شرط غير جازم ، وجملة «وَلَوْ أَسْمَعَهُمْ» معطوفة.
«لَتَوَلَّوْا» فعل ماض وفاعله واللام رابطة لجواب الشرط كذلك. والجملة الاسمية.
«وَهُمْ مُعْرِضُونَ» في محل نصب حال.
