Asbabu n-Nuzuul (Occasions of Revelation)
(Did He not find thee an orphan and protect (thee)?) [93:6]. Al-Fudayl ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Sufi informed us> Zahir ibn Ahmad> Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Ziyad al-Naysaburi> Yahya ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya> Abd Allah ibn Abd Allah al-Hajbi> Hammad ibn Zayd> Ata ibn al-Saib> Said ibn Jubayr> Ibn Abbas who reported that the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace, said: ﾓI have asked my Lord for something I wish I had not asked for. I said: O my Lord! There were prophets before me, some of whom you had subjugated the wind - and he mentioned Solomon, son of David - and
some of whom could bring the dead back to life - and he mentioned Jesus, son of Mary - and some of whomﾅ, etc.. Allah, exalted is He, responded by saying: Did I not find you an orphan and protected you? I said: Indeed, O my Lord. Allah said: Did I not find you wandering and directed you? I said: Indeed, O my
Lord! Allah, exalted is He said: Did I not find you destitute and enriched you? I said: Indeed, O my Lord! Allah, exalted is He, said: Have I not caused your bosom to dilate and eased you of the burden? I said: Indeed, O my Lord! ﾔ
A Mention of some of Allah's Favors upon the Messenger Enumerating His Favours upon His Messenger, Muhammad
Allah says;
أَلَمْ يَجِدْكَ يَتِيمًا فَآوَى ﴿٦﴾
Did He not find you an orphan and gave you a refuge?
This refers to the fact that
- his father died while his mother was still pregnant with him,
- and his mother, Aminah bint Wahb died when he was only six years old.
- After this he was under the guardianship of his grandfather, Abdul-Muttalib, until he died when Muhammad was eight years old.
- Then his uncle, Abu Talib took responsibility for him and continued to protect him, assist him, elevate his status, honor him, and even restrain his people from harming him.
When he was forty years of age and Allah commissioned him with the Prophethood. Even with this, Abu Talib continued to follow the religion of his people, worshipping idols. All of this took place by the divine decree of Allah and His decree is most excellent. Until Abu Talib died a short time before the Hijrah.
After this (Abu Talib's death) the foolish and ignorant people of the Quraysh began to attack him, so Allah chose for him to migrate away from them to the city of Al-Aws and Al-Khazraj among those who helped him (in Al-Madinah). Allah caused his Sunnah to be spread in the most perfect and complete manner. Then, when he arrived at their city, they gave him shelter, supported him, defended him and fought before him (against the enemies of Islam) -- may Allah be pleased with all of them. All of this was from Allah's protection for him, guarding over him and caring for him.
" ألم يجدك يتيما فآوى" وذلك أن أباه توفي وهو حمل في بطن أمه وقيل بعد أن ولد عليه السلام ثم توفيت أمه آمنة بنت وهب وله من العمر ست سنين ثم كان في كفالة جده عبد المطلب إلى أن توفي وله من العمر ثمان سنين كفله عمه أبو طالب ثم لم يزل يحوطه وينصره ويرفع من قدره ويوقره ويكف عنه أذى قومه بعد أن ابتعثه الله على رأس أربعين سنة من عمره هذا وأبو طالب على دين قومه من عبادة الأوثان وكل ذلك بقدر الله وحسن تدبيره إلى أن توفي أبو طالب قبل الهجرة بقليل فأقدم عليه سفهاء قريش وجهالهم فاختار الله له الهجرة من بين أظهرهم إلى بلد الأنصار من الأوس والخزرج كما أجرى الله سنته على الوجه الأتم الأكمل فلما وصل إليهم آووه ونصروه وحاطوه وقاتلوا بين يديه رضي الله عنهم أجمعين وكل هذا من حفظ الله له وكلاءته وعنايته به .
" ألم يجدك " استفهام تقرير أي وجدك " يتيما " بفقد أبيك قبل ولادتك أو بعدها " فآوى " بأن ضمك إلى عمك أبي طالب
عدد سبحانه مننه على نبيه محمد - صلى الله عليه وسلم - فقال : " ألم يجدك يتيما " لا أب لك قد مات أبوك . " فآوى " أي جعل لك مأوى تأوي إليه عند عمك أبي طالب , فكفلك . وقيل لجعفر بن محمد الصادق : لم أوتم النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - من أبويه ؟ فقال : لئلا يكون لمخلوق عليه حق . وعن مجاهد : هو من قول العرب : درة يتيمة إذا لم يكن لها مثل . فمجاز الآية : ألم يجدك واحدا في شرفك لا نظير لك , فآواك الله بأصحاب يحفظونك ويحوطونك .
I'raab - grammatical analysis of the Qur'an
«أَلَمْ يَجِدْكَ» الهمزة حرف استفهام وتقرير ومضارع مجزوم بلم والكاف مفعول به أول والفاعل مستتر «يَتِيماً» مفعول به ثان والجملة مستأنفة «فَآوى » ماض فاعله مستتر والجملة معطوفة على ما قبلها.
