فَأُلْقِيَ السَّحَرَةُ سُجَّداً قَالُوا آمَنَّا بِرَبِّ هَارُونَ وَمُوسَى

Yoruba Translation

Hausa Translation

Sai aka jħfar da masihirtan sunã mãsu sujada, suka ce: &quotMun yi ĩmãni da Ubangijin Hãrũna da Mũsã.&quot

So the magicians were thrown down to prostration: they said, "We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses".
And the magicians were cast down making obeisance; they said: We believe in the Lord of Haroun and Musa.
Then the wizards were (all) flung down prostrate, crying: We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses.

Asbabu n-Nuzuul (Occasions of Revelation)

فَأُلْقِيَ السَّحَرَةُ سُجَّدًا ...

So the magicians fell down prostrate.

... قَالُوا آمَنَّا بِرَبِّ هَارُونَ وَمُوسَى ﴿٧٠﴾

They said: "We believe in the Lord of Harun and Musa.''

They said, "We believe in the Lord of all that exists, the Lord of Musa and Harun!''

This is why Ibn Abbas and Ubayd binUmayr both said,

"At the beginning of the day they were magicians and at the end of the day they were outstanding witnesses of faith.''

The Number of Magicians

Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Ibn Abbas said,

"The magicians were seventy men who were magicians in the morning, but witnesses of faith by the time evening came.''

Ibn Abi Hatim also reported that Al-Awza'i said,

"When the magicians fell down in prostration, Paradise was raised up before them until they were looking at it.''

It is reported from Sa`id bin Jubayr that he said concerning Allah's statement, فَأُلْقِيَ السَّحَرَةُ سُجَّدًا (So the magicians fell down prostrate),

"They saw their places (in Paradise) made clear before them while they were in their prostration.''

Ikrimah and Al-Qasim bin Abi Bizzah both said the same.

قال وذكر عن سعيد بن سلام حدثنا إسماعيل بن عبد الله بن سلمان عن سالم الأفطس عن سعيد بن جبير قوله " ألقي السحرة سجدا " قال رأوا منازلهم تبين لهم وهم في سجودهم وكذا قال عكرمة والقاسم بن أبي بزة .

"فألقي السحرة سجدا" خروا ساجدين لله تعالى

لما رأوا من عظيم الأمر وخرق العادة في العصا ; فإنها ابتلعت جميع ما احتالوا به من الحبال والعصي ; وكانت حمل ثلثمائة بعير ثم عادت عصا لا يعلم أحد أين ذهبت الحبال والعصي إلا الله تعالى . وقد مضى في " الأعراف " هذا المعنى وأمر العصا مستوفى

I'raab - grammatical analysis of the Qur'an

«فَأُلْقِيَ» الفاء عاطفة وألقي ماض مبني للمجهول «السَّحَرَةُ» نائب فاعل «سُجَّداً» حال والجملة معطوفة على جملة مقدرة هي ألقى موسى عصاه فألقي السحرة «قالُوا» ماض وفاعله والجملة في محل نصب حال أخرى من السحرة «آمَنَّا» ماض وفاعله والجملة في محل نصب مقول القول «بِرَبِّ» متعلقان بآمنا «هارُونَ» مضاف إليه مجرور بالفتحة لأنه ممنوع من الصرف «وَمُوسى » معطوف بالواو مجرور مثله بالكسرة المقدرة على الألف المقصورة للتعذر
