"Ya kaitõna! (A ce dai) ban riƙi wãne masõyi ba!
Asbabu n-Nuzuul (Occasions of Revelation)
يَا وَيْلَتَى لَيْتَنِي لَمْ أَتَّخِذْ فُلَانًا خَلِيلًا ﴿٢٨﴾
O! Would that I had taken a path with the Messenger. Ah! Woe to me! Would that I had never taken so-and-so as an intimate friend!
meaning, the one among the propagators of misguidance who diverted him from true guidance and led him to follow the path of misguidance, whether this refers to Umayyah bin Khalaf or his brother Ubayy bin Khalaf, or to someone else.
لَقَدْ أَضَلَّنِي عَنِ الذِّكْرِ ...
He indeed led me astray from the Reminder,
means the Qur'an,
... بَعْدَ إِذْ جَاءنِي ...
after it had come to me.
means, after it had reached me.
ويعض على يديه قائلا : " يا ليتني اتخذت مع الرسول سبيلا يا ويلتا ليتني لم أتخذ فلانا خليلا " يعني من صرفه عن الهدى وعدل به إلى طريق الضلال من دعاة الضلالة وسواء في ذلك أمية بن خلف أو أخوه أبي بن خلف أو غيرهما .
"يا ويلتى" ألفه عوض عن ياء الإضافة أي ويلتى ومعناه هلكتي "ليتني لم أتخذ فلانا" أي أبيا
دعاء بالويل والثبور على محالفة الكافر ومتابعته .

«يا» للنداء «وَيْلَتى » منادى مضاف وياء المتكلم مضاف إليه وقد انقلبت الياء ألفا وجملة النداء ابتدائية «لَيْتَنِي» ليت واسمها «لَمْ أَتَّخِذْ» مضارع مجزوم بلم والجملة خبر ليت «فُلاناً خَلِيلًا» مفعولا أتخذ وجملة ليتني ابتدائية
