يَسْتَمِعُونَ إِلَيْكَ أَفَأَنتَ تُسْمِعُ الصُّمَّ وَلَوْ كَانُواْ لاَ يَعْقِلُونَ

Shin to, kai kanã jiyar da kurma ne, ko kanã shiryar da makãho da wanda ke a cikin ɓata bayyananna?
Canst thou then make the deaf to hear, or give direction to the blind or to such as (wander) in manifest error?
What! can you then make the deaf to hear or guide the blind and him who is in clear error?
Canst thou (Muhammad) make the deaf to hear, or canst thou guide the blind or him who is in error manifest?
Asbabu n-Nuzuul (Occasions of Revelation)
Allah says:
أَفَأَنتَ تُسْمِعُ الصُّمَّ أَوْ تَهْدِي الْعُمْيَ وَمَن كَانَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ ﴿٤٠﴾
Can you make the deaf to hear, or can you guide the blind or him who is in manifest error?
means, `that is not up to you. All you have to do is convey the Message, but you do not have to guide them. Allah guides whomsoever He wills and sends astray whomsoever He wills, and He is Wise and Just in doing so.'
أي ليس ذلك إليك إنما عليك البلاغ وليس عليك هداهم ولكن الله يهدي من يشاء ويضل من يشاء وهو الحكم العدل في ذلك .
"أفأنت تسمع الصم أو تهدي العمي ومن كان في ضلال مبين" بين أي فهم لا يؤمنون
قوله تعالى " أفأنت تسمع الصم أو تهدي العمي " يا محمد " ومن كان في ضلال مبين " أي ليس لك ذلك فلا يضيق صدرك إن كفروا ; ففيه تسلية للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم . وفيه رد على القدرية وغيرهم , وأن الهدى والرشد والخذلان في القلب خلق الله تعالى , يضل من يشاء ويهدي من يشاء .

«أَفَأَنْتَ» الهمزة حرف استفهام والفاء حرف استئناف وأنت مبتدأ «تُسْمِعُ الصُّمَّ» مضارع ومفعوله والفاعل مستتر والجملة خبر أنت والجملة الاسمية مستأنفة «أَوْ» حرف عطف «تَهْدِي الْعُمْيَ» مضارع ومفعوله والفاعل مستتر والجملة معطوفة على ما قبلها «وَمَنْ» حرف عطف ومن معطوف على العمي «كانَ» ماض ناقص اسمه مستتر «فِي ضَلالٍ» خبره «مُبِينٍ» صفة ضلال
