ثُمَّ لَمْ تَكُن فِتْنَتُهُمْ إِلاَّ أَن قَالُواْ وَاللّهِ

مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ قَالُوا ضَلُّوا عَنَّا بَل لَّمْ نَكُن نَّدْعُو مِن قَبْلُ شَيْئاً كَذَلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ الْكَافِرِينَ
Min dooni Allahi qaloo dalloo AAanna bal lam nakun nadAAoo min qablu shayan kathalika yudillu Allahu alkafireena

"Wanin Allah?" Suka ce: "Sun ɓace mana. ôa, ba mu kasance munã kiran kõme ba a gabani."Kamar wancan ne Allah Yake ɓatar da kãfirai.
"In derogation of Allah?" They will reply: "They have left us in the lurch: Nay, we invoked not, of old, anything (that had real existence)." Thus does Allah leave the Unbelievers to stray.
Besides Allah? They shall say: They are gone away from us, nay, we used not to call upon anything before. Thus does Allah confound the unbelievers.
Beside Allah? They say: They have failed us; but we used not to pray to anything before. Thus doth Allah send astray the disbelievers (in His guidance).
Asbabu n-Nuzuul (Occasions of Revelation)
ثُمَّ قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تُشْرِكُونَ ﴿٧٣﴾
مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ ...
Then it will be said to them: "Where are (all) those whom you considered partners -- besides Allah,''
means, it will be said to them, `where are the idols whom you used to worship instead of Allah. Can they help you today?'
... قَالُوا ضَلُّوا عَنَّا ....
They will say: "They have vanished from us...''
mean, they have gone away and they cannot do anything for us.'
.. بَل لَّمْ نَكُن نَّدْعُو مِن قَبْلُ شَيْئًا ...
Nay, we did not invoke (worship) anything before.
means, they will deny that they worshipped them.
This is like the Ayah:
ثُمَّ لَمْ تَكُنْ فِتْنَتُهُمْ إِلاَّ أَن قَالُواْ وَاللَّهِ رَبِّنَا مَا كُنَّا مُشْرِكِينَ
There will then be (left) no Fitnah (excuse) for them but to say: "By Allah, our Lord, we were not those who joined others in worship with Allah.'' (6:23)
Allah says:
... كَذَلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ الْكَافِرِينَ ﴿٧٤﴾
Thus Allah leads astray the disbelievers.
" قالوا ضلوا عنا " أي ذهبوا فلم ينفعونا " بل لم نكن ندعو من قبل شيئا " أي جحدوا عبادتهم كقوله جلت عظمته " ثم لم تكن فتنتهم إلا أن قالوا والله ربنا ما كنا مشركين " ولهذا قال عز وجل " كذلك يضل الله الكافرين " .
"من دون الله" معه وهي الأصنام "قالوا ضلوا" غابوا "عنا" فلا نراهم "بل لم نكن ندعو من قبل شيئا" أنكروا عبادتهم إياها ثم أحضرت قال تعالى : "إنكم وما تعبدون من دون الله حصب جهنم" أي وقودها "كذلك" أي مثل إضلال هؤلاء المكذبين

«مِنْ دُونِ» متعلقان بحال محذوفة «اللَّهِ» لفظ الجلالة مضاف إليه «قالُوا» ماض وفاعله «ضَلُّوا» ماض وفاعله والجملة مقول القول «عَنَّا» متعلقان بضلوا «بَلْ» حرف عطف وانتقال «لَمْ نَكُنْ» مضارع ناقص مجزوم بلم واسمه مستتر «نَدْعُوا» مضارع مرفوع فاعله مستتر والجملة خبر نكن معطوفة على ما قبلها «مِنْ قَبْلُ» متعلقان بالفعل «شَيْئاً» مفعول به «كَذلِكَ» جار ومجرور متعلقان بصفة مفعول مطلق محذوف «يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ الْكافِرِينَ» مضارع وفاعله ومفعوله المنصوب لاياء والجملة مستأنفة
